* Deer-shotgun: Statewide regulations shall apply, except hunting allowed by permit only. Each permit will be valid for both of the firearm deer seasons, and permits will be allocated through the regular statewide drawing. Permit holders must check in at the site by 5:00 AM each day of deer season to validate their permit; at this time, there will also be a drawing for standby hunters for any available vacancies. Vacancies may be filled by any person holding a valid hunting license, Habitat Stamp, and FOID card, unless exempt. Standby hunters will be issued a one-day site-specific deer permit at the check station, and charged a permit fee of $5.00. Hunters must report to the check station no later than 5:30 PM. At this time, harvest must be reported and hunting licenses will be returned.
The large stand of mature oak, hickory and maple provide excellent habitat and abundant food for both fox and gray squirrel. Bow and shotgun hunting for deer can only be described as marginal; although some hunters are successful on a regular basis. Rabbit and quail numbers are low due to limited suitable habitat, but can be found around timber edges and fields. There are no pheasants on this area.
