LOCATION: The Moraine View State Recreation Area (MVSRA) is located 5 miles northeast of LeRoy in southeastern McLean County

The MVSRA is characterized by major habitat areas consisting of forest (27%); shrubs (24%); grassland (26%) and cropland (23%).

SITE REGULATIONS:

  1. Permit Pheasant (Released) hunting is by site permit and fee from November 1 to December 31. Permit pheasant hunting is open Wednesday to Sunday. Daily limit is 2 either sex pheasants. No other species may be taken during the permit pheasant season. Pheasants must be tagged with a state tag prior to removal from area. Hunters are required to deposit their licenses in the check station and wear back patch at all times while hunting on the area. Check in hours are 7 a.m to 8 a.m. Hunting hours are 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. Hunters must use size 5,6,7 ½, 8, 8 ½, or 9 lead shot or 3,4,5,6,7, or 8 steel shot. Youth only pheasant hunt (Hunters aged 10-15) Sunday December 31st, 2006.
  2. Pheasant hunting requires a free site permit and is open from the close of the permit pheasant season (Dec 31st) to the end of the statewide season (North Zone - Jan. 8). Hunting hours are 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. Statewide bag limit applies. Falconry hunters must obtain a free permit from the site office before hunting and report harvest by Dec. 1. Falconry hunting begins Oct. 1 through Oct. 29, 2 days before permit pheasant season (Nov. 1). Hunting hours are 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. Statewide bag limit applies.
  3. Dove hunting requires a free site permit and is open September 1 through October 11. Hunters must use size 5, 6, 7, 71/2, 8, or 9 non-toxic shot for dove hunting. When necessary, the daily quota of hunters will be selected by a public drawing at the check station. Check at site for drawing time. Hunters must check in and check out to report harvest between Sept.1 through Sept. 5. All hunting must be from the perimeter shooting into the designated sunflower fields. Hunting hours are from noon to 5 P.M. between Sept. 1 through Sept. 5 and sunrise to sunset between Sept. 6 through October 11. Statewide bag limit applies.
  4. Squirrel hunting requires a free site permit and is open August 1 through the Tuesday (Oct. 31). Only shotguns may be used for squirrel hunting. Statewide hours and bag limit applies.
  5. Rabbit hunting requires a free site permit and is open ONLY Monday and Tuesday starting (Nov. 6) and open daily after the permit pheasant season (Dec. 31) to the end of the statewide season (Jan 8.) Statewide bag limit applies. Falconry hunters must obtain a free permit from the site office before hunting and report harvest by Dec. 1. Falconry hunting begins Oct. 1 through Oct. 29, 2 days before permit pheasant season (Nov. 1). Hunting hours are 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. Statewide bag limits applies.
  6. Woodcock hunting requires a free site permit and is open according to the Federal regulations through Nov. 1. Hunting hours are sunrise to 4 P.M. Federal bag limit and possession limits apply.
  7. Raccoon hunting requires a free site permit and is open on Dec. 11 to the end of the statewide season. Drawing will be held (Dec. 5). Each hunter drawn will be given 2 days to hunt. Limited to 4 hunters, all with free site permits. Season is closed during deer season. Statewide bag limit applies.
  8. Raccoon trapping is permitted and opens with the Northern Zone Nov 5 - Jan 15. Opens sunrise on Nov. 5 and closes sunset Jan. 15th. Two person on a single card.
  9. Hunters engaged in pheasant and rabbit hunting must wear a cap and upper outer garment of solid blaze orange (at least 400 square inches).
  10. Hunting is restricted to those portions of the area posted as open to hunting.
  11. All hunting must be with shotgun, bow and arrow or falconry. Free site permits may be obtained during office hours (8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Site permits MUST BE RETURNED by February 9, 2007. Failure to return permit will result in a loss of privilege the next season.

OTHER FACILITIES AVAILABLE: Fishing and boating are provided on the lake. Eight picnic areas with tables and fireplaces are available. A large camping area with gravel pads, electricity, showers, flush toilets and a sanitation station for trailers is present. 13 miles of horseback trails are also available. Handicap facilities are also available.
